Why do Christians say that? Doesn't sometimes seem like we're living in hell right here on earth? If this is God's love, I don't want it. Yet there are people who are much worse off than you are... yes that is possible... and they are praising God for his love.

How can they do that?

Because they know who they are, what is coming, and what God has done.

Who are they? Sinners. That word doesn't have much meaning today. Maybe wretched would be better. That's what I am... a wretched, evil, sinner. I'm someone who deserves eternal torment in hell. That's right. Eternal. Forever with no chance ever of getting out. Forever in the lake of fire. Forever being eaten by worms but never consumed. Forever in darkness. Forever alone. Forever... never, ever ending.

What is coming? Judgment. There is one statistic you can not avoid. Ten out of ten people die. You will die and then comes judgment. There is no question... ask your conscience. You are guilty and heading for an eternity in hell.

This is gloomy... hopeless. That's right, but there is good news.

What has God done? Because you are a wretched, evil sinner you deserve eternity in hell, but God has stepped into your place and taken your punishment in your place. He paid the penalty you owe. You are a wretched, evil, sinner who deserves the punishment of eternity in hell, but God paid that debt you owe so that when you face judgment Jesus will say, "Your debt is paid, Enter heaven to be with God."
